About Me

Edward J. Hall

I have been interested in motor sport, since and early age, attending grass track meetings with my father who was a mechanic for a local rider, Dave Simpson. I started taking photographs in the early 80’s of my mates who were racing motorcycles at croft circuit, not the best photo’s but when you only have a Zenith E you don’t expect perfection. It wasn’t long before I invested in a Canon AE1 and then a Canon A1.
My first Digital camera was an Olympus 1.2M pixel and with so much lag between pressing the shutter button and the image being captured it was no use what so ever for sports photography. A Minolta Dimage 7i was my next camera but it just didn’t feel like a real camera. Then Canon released the 300D and I had to have one. It felt and handled like a real 35mm camera and the shutter lag was unnoticeable. I worked my way to the Canon 30D and then to the Canon 5D. The Canon 5D although it had the benefit of being full frame the focusing speed was just to slow for motor sport photography. Then came the big investment in a Canon 1D MkIII. Which I can say I am happy with although they did suffer some bad press when they were first released. Another even bigger investment was the Canon 1D MkIV... However this does mean I don't have to keep swaping lenses as often as when I only had the MkIII.
Working in the Oil industry for many years I have not had the chance to indulge in my love of photography as much as I would have liked however in October 2009 I decided to have a long break from work and spend some quality time attending and photographing motor sport events.
All of my photographs are now taken with a Canon Professional digital SLR cameras. These produce very high quality images, which can produce prints up to 40" X 30" in size.
